Winter Walk

As much as I am a lover of having four seasons, I have always wished winter could be much shorter than the others. Every year my New Hampshire husband reminds me about layers and I try to focus on how pretty snow is and that there is more indoor time for reading. Still, I miss being outside, and this year I want to make more of an effort to brave the elements.

On a December Saturday morning (mercifully mild) we joined the "Friends of the Blue Hills Reservation" for a Winter walk.

Nana was here for a visit and helped us find things on the scavenger hunt list, such as an "interesting rock".

Sophia loved finding the bear paws that told us which way to go on the trail, and a fallen tree that acted like a "see-saw".

She also loved the freedom to run far ahead without having to think about cars.

Until she wore her legs out and welcomed her father's shoulders.

First Haircut

While visiting our family in Pennsylvania, Sophia's Nana brought her to her own hairdresser for a very first haircut after 2 1/2 years of hair growing. We weren't particularly sentimental about not cutting it, but only recently had we noticed her trying to brush the hair out of her eyes.

She was provided with three pillows to sit on and a book to read as well as what she called, "a pink cape".

She was encouraged to sit very still, but then wouldn't even speak back to the hairdresser as she was frozen in position.

My Mom had asked to save a few clippings of hair. When we got back to the house and encouraged Sophia to show her Dada, Uncle James and Bop-bop her "haircut" she asked for the bag of cut hair to hand to them.

She was also offered a free manicure, pink sparkles as her color of choice, to complete her new look.
