Summer Sabbaths

Sabbath is a set aside day every week all year long, but I am attempting a reset this summer.

I am starting with just the Sundays in the summer to be more intentional about rest with the hope to continue a new rhythm.

I need to reconsider what it looks like in this season of life with small people.

A book I recently read asked you to rank your contentment with "work, love, health and play" in your life. Play was defined as "done just for fun" and I ranked the lowest on it. Another book I just finished spoke of sabbath as "desirable instead of deprivation".

I believe that Sabbath is a gift but also a necessity. It is evident on a daily basis that these bodies we inhabit were created to require rest.

This Sunday we went to Cambridge with the purposes of play and rest.

I marveled at how two year olds don't need any instruction on how to play (though often need assistance with rest).

And my sabbath joy was multiplied by the delight of these four people I love.

Two Birthdays and Four Graduations

On the eve of her birthday eve, Sophia and her Dad headed out on a trampoline park/Ikea/Ice cream adventure. The next morning she woke up to Breakfast in bed. As soon as she got home from School that day it was time to travel to one of her favorite places.

Sophia spent her 8th birthday at Mother/Daughter Camp at Berea in New Hampshire.

It will be hard to top this birthday of donut decorating, sand castle building, and night swimming with friends.

A week later it was time to celebrate Alannah turning four.

The girls each got to invite a few friends, some of whom they hadn't seen for a year.

The next week we had the joy of celebrating the high school graduations of our two oldest nephews.

And the preschool graduation of our oldest son.

We wish we could have been in Colorado for the high school gradation of our niece Grace, but are thankful we were able to celebrate with her in April.

Little J-Man Turns 5!

Dear J-Man, Happy 5th Birthday! Does this make you a BIG kid?  You love bouncing off the  walls, just like your favorite superhero, Spider-M...
