Warm Snowball Fight

She went to bed without a flake in sight and greeted us in the kitchen during the 6am hour with a huge smile singing, "It snowed....it snowed...it snowed last night....everything is sparkling 'cause it snowed last night!" ( "It Snowed" by Meaghan Smith. )

She went back upstairs after lunch for quiet rest time with the promise that she could play in the snow. As her siblings slept, she braved the cold on her own, pressing down almost the entire small square of our backyard with snow angels. When they awoke, she delighted them with a one-sided snowball fight intercepted by a pane of glass.

Now that they were available to play, she brought in buckets of it for them and scavenged our kitchen for a variety of scoops. She created a smoothie recipe of snow, cinnamon, milk, and whipped cream.

And when we all venture outside, we eat freshly fallen snow off park benches (sure to be filled with impurities) with abandon, as we marvel at the ability to touch and taste what falls from the sky.
